Portrait Of My Dad using the Alla Prima Technique

Finally got to learn the Alla Prima technique with David. We worked for 14 hours straight (with a couple of short breaks) on day one and another 5 hours the next day to finish the painting. It’s a very interesting wet on wet technique used by Rembrandt. Thank you David for teaching me this technique.

I refer to my paintings as creations from stillness. I have found the best thing I can do as an artist is to get out of the way and let life paint what it wants to paint. I get inspiration about what each painting will be, and then, bit by bit, the general sense of it fills in, but that all comes from stillness, too.
